Bug Light

Bug Light, a project for my advanced woodworking course at VCU, was initially an exercise in bent lamination, with the object of “containment,” in this case – light. I began by fabricating the wing-like elements, and through experimentation with slot joints, sculpted the rest of the lantern very organically. Deferring from my initial concept sketches, the final form is meant to resemble a beetle from the side, and a flower from below.
